Targum Shlishi Supports New Web-based Initiative for Charitable Donating to Israel

Miami, FL (July 15, 2009) – There is now a central online source for information about Israel’s charities. The bilingual (Hebrew and English) website is a platform for information about all of Israel’s 26,500 active charities. In addition to providing extensive information and official documentation about each charity, the website provides each charity with its own mini-website and the means of collecting online donations. The charity portion of the website launched in May 2009, and the donor portion of the website is scheduled to launch in summer 2009.

Targum Shlishi has supported the IsraelGives Foundation in 2008 and 2009. Targum Shlishi’s grant is being applied to marketing the website to Israel’s charitable community and the international donor community through activities such as online e-mail campaigns and viral marketing.

This website is unique in Israel and provides a much-needed service to both charities and potential donors. Less than 200 of Israel’s 26,500 charities have websites and of those, even fewer have English-language websites or the capability to collect donations online. In the past, potential donors throughout the world often had little information about Israel’s charities.

“IsraelGives bridges the gap between donors and charities with this much-needed service,” notes Aryeh Rubin, director of Targum Shlishi. “The more information we as donors have available to us, the better, Unfortunately, as recent news reports have pointed out, there are instances of large U.S. foundations and, in some instances, of local Jewish Federations that support multiple Israeli charities that are not carefully vetted and include Arab nongovernmental organizations that challenge the legitimacy of Israel. There is also the problem of fraudulent and misrepresented charities such as small charitable organizations that exist only to support their director.”

IsraelGives was founded by Yonatan Ben-Dor, one of the developers of Table to Table, Israel’s Food Rescue Network, which Targum Shlishi also supports. The IsraelGives website URL is in English and in Hebrew.
